The best timber species for Sydney floors
Colour, hardness and character vary a lot between species. Here's how the popular choices compare.
Solid timber flooring
Australian hardwood, laid and finished on site. The floor that lasts the life of the house.
Solid tongue-and-groove hardwood is still the benchmark. Boards are nailed to joists or glued to battens and then sanded and coated in place, so the finish is continuous, the colour is chosen on site, and the floor can be resanded many times over the decades.

Because the coating goes on after the boards are laid, you choose the exact stain, sheen and coating system once you can see the timber in the room.
